There is one pi bond between C and O. Every double bond is a sigma bond+ a pi bond, and every triple bond 1 sigma + 2 pi.

The hybridization is SP2 leaving one more P orbital to interact with a P orbital on the Oxygen atom to make a single pi bond. The SP2 predicted geometry is trigonal planar and what do you know, formaldehyde is trigonal planar. All of this is consistent with the bond orders predicted from the lewis dot structure as well.
