What does Low Coolant mean when flashing in your car?

Well I checked the Low Coolant container and it is still full of water, and the hose that runs to the radiator to keep it cool is working well, so what is it then, the radiator still has plenty of fluids also. I'm not sure what it could be, the light keeps flashing, its been flashing for a while now, but my car's not overheating or anything, so what could it be then? Do you know?

Either a software problem, or the coolant sensor has been moved from its place (a little bit upwards).

In both cases I recommend that you pay a visit to the dealer. It won't need a serious repair now, but it will later on if you didn't fix it.

a bad sensor, or an air bubble in the cooling system…

your low coolant sensor is bad or you have a bad connection to the sensor.the sensor is located in your reservoir….

You're low on coolant.

May need to replace the coolant level sensor.

Coolant is a fluid that keeps the radiator cool, it is not water!
If you have filled you container with water then the radiator could be getting too hot. Hence the light keep flashing.

If it's flashing you may have a short circuit in the wiring going to the sensor. If you can locate it, try wiggling the connector and see if it goes away. The sensor should be on the bottle somewhere.

Check the owners manual, or call the service department at the dealer, They will check and advise you.

What Is Coolant In Car

If you're using water, then that's already your problem right there. Otherwise, could be a sensor going bad.

probably the sensor in the bottle is faulty.

I would go to Walmart, Auto Zone, or your local auto store to purchase and Antifreeze Tester. They usually cost a few dollars.

It is easy to use, the instructions will usually be on the package if you have never used one.

Make sure you have the correct mixture of antifreeze and water. If you don't have enough antifreeze, your light could have come on to tell you so. If you have too much water, the engine won't cool properly.

If the levels are ok, and your engine is not over heating, it could also be a fuse. Check your fuse panel.

Sometimes the sensor in the coolant reservoir or the temperature sensor goes bad. This will register as "coolant low".

You can rent a pressure tester from Auto Zone, if there is one near you, to make sure your coolant lines aren't leaking.

It could also be an intake manifold leak.

This problem is very common in GM vehicles, especially the Impala, Grand Prix, and the Lumina.
