My throat hurts when I run?

I enjoy running, but I don't do it a lot because it makes my throat burn. It's not from thirst though- water doesn't help much when this happens. & it makes it really hard to swallow.
I do have exercise induced athsma- could it be from that? If it is, should I get more medication, because i used to take Singular but I stopped a few months ago (I do have an inhaler)
Or is it just from breathing the wrong way?

here's just a fact for everybody's throat hurting: ALMOST EVERYBODY'S throat hurts when they run for a while; at least a bit.

when you run, most people feel short of breath, and try to gain more air through their mouths. when they do that, their saliva will evaporate, and then it will leave their throat more dry, which results in that burning… scratchiness.

when you run, to make it not hurt as often, ALWAYS drink PLENTY of water, and try to pace yourself, and run with your mouth closed. of course you can open it, just don't leave it gaping open the whole time; that's the main reason for the scratchyness.

and no, it normally doesnt feel like you need water, it just makes your throat feel all burned and scratchy and dryish. xDD

plus, the people with the exercise induced asthema MAY get burnish-throats easier. -shrug-

good luck =3

Burning in the throat can sometimes be heart-related. Have you had it checked?

It's cause you don't exercise often enough and you haven't built up your lung capacity. Try to run slower in the beginning and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth don't inhale the entire atmosphere either 😉 we have plenty of air.

mine does the same thing, especially if it's cold outside. i think it's just from breathing so much harder, it irritates your throat.

Just because water doesn't help much doesn't mean it isn't caused by dehydration. Try drinking more water throughout the day so that when you run you don't deplete your body's supply of water. You should also drink more during the run so that you remain hydrated. If you are thirsty then it is already too late.

Breathing…… 90% sure your sore throat is from your breathing. most people when they run hard breath through their mouth…. both in and out….. If the air is dry and cool…. your throat will be affected. Whenever I train outdoors in the fall and winter… I always wrap a towel ( or something similar) around my neck. This tends to keep the throat warm, and the cool air does not bother me. however, when I can't do that… I try as much as possible to breath in through my nose. focus only on the breathing in…. long hard pulls….. the breathing out, through the mouth, will take care of itself.

OMG! MINE HURTS WHEN I RUN TOO! PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND OUT. MAYBE WE AREN'T BREATHING CORRECTLY WHEN WE RUN. IDK!

My throat sometimes gets sore but never blood. I usually take water with me unless it's a really short distance. If I forget water I slow down till my breathing is almost normal and I can swallow a lot. I usually find this helps. That happened to a girl in my school, it looked serious but she was fine. She had been trying to hard to keep up with a friend but it was too much for her. Go at your own pace and don't push yourself too much.
